Hello foodies welcome to foodcharisma, today we will talk about a dish which along with being tasty is also very beneficial for our health. Yes, I am talking about mutton paya (trotters) soup which is a very tasty dish.
What is Mutton Paya?
Actually paya is an Urdu word which is derived from the Arabic word qadam which means feet. In this dish we will take goat’s feet. This dish is cooked through a slow cooking process due to which its flavor comes out well and this dish becomes even more tasty when eaten. Rich amount of calcium and collagen make this dish very good for health.
Mutton Paya Soup Recipe
So let’s start making this authentic and flavourful dish
Ingredients:
- Mutton paya (Trotters)- (5-6)
- Onion -2(medium size) finely chopped
- Ginger garlic paste -1 tablespoon
- Whole spices:
- Bay leaf-2
- Black cardmom-1
- Green cardamom -3-4
- Black pepper -1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds -1/2 teaspoon
- Black cumin seeds(shahi zeera) -1/2 teaspoon
- Star anise -1
- Cinnamon -1 inch piece
- Garam masala powder -1teaspoon
- Red chilli powder -1 teaspoon
- Turmeric -1 teaspoon
- Green chilli -3-4 slitted (as per taste)
- Water -6 -7 glasses
- Salt – as per taste
- Oil -2 -3 tablespoon
Method of preparation of mutton paya soup:
Washing of mutton trotters:
First of all we will clean the mutton paya or trotters thoroughly with water, then we will soak these paya or trotters in lukewarm water for 10 minutes. In this hot water we will put a teaspoon of salt or a teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar and take the paya (trotters) till all the dirt gets cleaned.
Cooking process:
- Now take a pressure cooker, add oil in it, then add all the whole spices in it, then add chopped onion and slit green chillies.
- When the onion becomes little brown, add ginger garlic paste and turmeric to it and fry it well till the oil separates from the masala.
- Now add mutton paya (trotters) to the roasted masala, add red chilli powder, add some water so that the masala does not burn and roast on slow flame.
- Now add garam masala powder, then add water to it, cover the cooker with lid and let it whistle for 6-7 times on slow flame.
- Now turn off the flame and let this mutton paya rest for 7-10 minutes
- After this open the cooker and garnish it with choppad green coriander and lemon
Serving Tips:

- You can serve it with roti or naan, this mutton paya tastes great with both.
