Hello friends, today we are going to make Mix Dal Khichdi, a very simple and delicious dish. This mix dal khichdi is a healthy one-pot meal. Personally, I love this dish, and if you try it using my method, you will surely like it too!
In this recipe, we will use a variety of pulses, such as chana dal, masoor dal, matar dal, hara urad dal, moong dal, etc. Along with some spices, our dish will be ready in no time.

Ingredients
Pulses and Rice:
- Mix pulses (masoor, hara urad, chana, matar, moong dal) – 20g eachRice – 250g
Spices:
- medium onion
- 8-9 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 3 dried red chilie
- s1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp black peppercorns
- 4-5 green chilies (or as per taste)
- ½ inch ginger
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt (as per taste)
- Oil or Ghee (as required)
- Water (as required, depending on cooking method – pan or pressure cooker)
For Tempering:
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 green cardamoms
- 2 cloves
- 1 medium onion (thinly sliced)
- 8-9 curry leaves
Method
Step 1: Washing and Soaking Pulses and Rice
- Take a pan and add the mix pulses and rice
- .Wash them thoroughly with water at least 2-3 times.
- Soak them in water for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Grinding the Spices
- Take a mixer jar and add:
- Garlic
- Onion
- Coriander seeds
- Cumin seeds
- Black peppercorns
- Green chilies
- Ginger
- Dried red chilies
- Water (as needed)
- Grind everything into a fine paste.
Step 3: Cooking the Spices
- Heat a pressure cooker on high flame.Add oil or ghee. Once hot, add:
- Curry leaves, bay leaf, green cardamom, cloves – sauté for a few seconds.
- Add sliced onion and fry until golden brown.
- Add the prepared spice paste and turmeric powder, then sauté well.
- Cook the spices until oil separates from the masala.
Step 4: Adding Pulses and Rice
- Once the masala is well cooked, add water as required.
- Water should be enough to cook both dal and rice properly.
- When the water starts boiling, add the soaked pulses and rice.
- Add salt and mix well.
- Cover the cooker with a lid and cook on medium to low flame for 3-4 whistles.
Step 5: Garnishing and Serving
- Garnish the Mix Dal Khichdi with fresh green coriander leaves.
- Serve hot and enjoy with family!

- Add a little pure ghee on top to enhance the flavor.
